Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your adventure begins early in the morning when your Perky Africa Tours guide picks you up from your hotel in Kampala, Entebbe, or Entebbe International Airport. After a short briefing about your safari, you’ll begin the journey to southwestern Uganda, home to the magnificent Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The drive offers an excellent introduction to Uganda’s diverse landscapes. As you leave the city behind, you’ll pass vibrant trading centers, banana plantations, tea estates, cattle farms, and picturesque rolling hills. Your guide will share fascinating stories about Uganda’s culture, history, wildlife, and local traditions throughout the journey.

Your first stop is at the Uganda Equator, where you’ll have time to take memorable photographs, enjoy refreshments, and browse locally made crafts and souvenirs. This is a perfect opportunity to stretch your legs before continuing south.

Lunch is served at a carefully selected restaurant in Mbarara, one of western Uganda’s largest towns. After lunch, the scenery becomes even more spectacular as the road winds through terraced hills and lush green valleys often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa.”

Arriving in Bwindi during the late afternoon or early evening, you’ll check into your lodge surrounded by the tranquil rainforest. After settling in, your guide will brief you about the following day’s gorilla trekking adventure, explaining the trekking procedures, park regulations, and what to expect during your encounter with the mountain gorillas.

Enjoy dinner at the lodge while listening to the sounds of the forest before retiring early in preparation for your exciting trek.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake up early to the sounds of birds echoing through the rainforest before enjoying a hearty breakfast at your lodge. Carry your packed lunch, drinking water, rain jacket, hiking boots, and camera as your guide transfers you to the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters for registration.

After registration, experienced park rangers conduct a detailed briefing covering gorilla trekking guidelines, safety precautions, and conservation efforts. Visitors are then divided into small groups of up to eight people, each assigned to a specific habituated gorilla family.

The trek begins through dense rainforest, bamboo forests, and steep hillsides. Depending on the location of the gorillas, the trek may take anywhere from one to six hours. Although the hike can sometimes be challenging, every step becomes worthwhile the moment you encounter the gorillas.

Watching these magnificent animals interact in their natural environment is an unforgettable experience. Observe silverbacks guarding their families, mothers caring for infants, playful juveniles climbing trees, and the group’s peaceful social interactions. Visitors are allowed one unforgettable hour with the gorillas while maintaining a respectful distance as instructed by the rangers.

After your trek, you’ll return to the park headquarters where you’ll receive your official Gorilla Trekking Certificate as a lasting reminder of this extraordinary achievement.

Return to your lodge for a well-deserved rest. If time and energy permit, you may choose to visit a nearby Batwa community to learn about the indigenous forest people, their traditional lifestyle, music, dance, and survival skills.

Enjoy dinner and another peaceful night at the lodge.
