8-Day Rwenzori Trekking Itinerary
Day 1: Nyakalengija (1,646m) – Nyabitaba Hut (2,651m)
Arrive at the Rwenzori Mountains National Park headquarters in Nyakalengija for registration and a briefing by your mountain guides. Begin your ascent through dense montane forest, crossing small streams and steep ridges. Keep an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and a variety of bird species.

Day 2: Nyabitaba Hut (2,651m) – John Matte Hut (3,505m)
Descend through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, where the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers converge. Continue through bamboo forests and giant heather zones before arriving at John Matte Hut beneath the dramatic slopes of Mount Stanley.

Day 3: John Matte Hut (3,505m) – Bujuku Hut (3,962m)
Today’s trek takes you across the iconic Bigo Bog, one of the most memorable sections of the Central Circuit. Walk along raised boardwalks through a surreal landscape of giant lobelias and groundsels before reaching Bujuku Hut in the heart of the Bujuku Valley.
Surrounded by the towering peaks of Mount Stanley, Mount Baker, and Mount Speke, Bujuku offers some of the finest scenery in the Rwenzoris.

Day 4: Bujuku Hut (3,962m) – Kitandara Hut (4,023m)
Climb steadily towards Scott-Elliot Pass (4,372m), the highest point reached on the Central Circuit Trail. Enjoy breathtaking views over the surrounding peaks and valleys before descending to the picturesque Kitandara Lakes.
Nestled beneath Mount Baker, Kitandara Hut offers an unforgettable overnight setting amidst dramatic alpine scenery.

Day 5: Kitandara Hut (4,023m) – Guy Yeoman Hut (3,261m)

Arrive at Guy Yeoman Hut overlooking the Mubuku Valley.

Day 6: Guy Yeoman Hut (3,261m) – Nyabitaba Hut (2,651m)
Continue descending through bamboo forests and lush montane rainforest as you retrace part of the trail toward Nyabitaba Hut. Along the way, enjoy final glimpses of the Rwenzori’s unique ecosystems and listen to the sounds of the forest.

Day 7: Nyabitaba Hut (2,651m) – Nyakalengija (1,646m)
Complete your final descent to Nyakalengija. Celebrate the successful completion of your Rwenzori Central Circuit adventure and enjoy a well-earned rest.
Depending on your onward travel plans, you may spend the night in Kasese or continue to your next destination.
